A professional chef, William J. Hayes Jr. was exposed to the culinary industry at an early age. The family-owned Delaware Provision Company, Inc. began in 1970. The company was initially contracted as a wholesale supplier and provided vendors with luncheon meats, cheeses, oils and spices. In 1980, Sam and Kathleen bought out and took over Barczewski Brothers, the makers of the homemade Polish kielbasa. Having become directly involved with the business over 10 years ago, Mr. Hayes transformed Delaware Provision from not just a wholesale supply company and sausage processing facility, but a full-service catering company as well. He always seeks new opportunities to expanded avenues of service, and loves testing new recipes that delight the palate and combine home-grown goodness with modern ideas. By experimenting in the kitchen and showcasing his creativity, Mr. Hayes demonstrates not only an intense passion but, more importantly, a drive to keep the business fresh and successful. In addition to preparing dishes, he sanitizes the facility, manages the processing facility, and ensures that all logistics - including production, procurement and distribution - are handled in a timely and efficient manner. He is proud to provide catering services for a wide variety of events including baptisms, weddings, reunions, special events, graduations, birthday parties, and funerals.
Delaware Provision Company, Inc. is the highly recommended caterer for the Wilmington River Boat, which is located on the scenic Wilmington river front. During the spring and summer months, the company sells their renowned sausages and meats at the Rehoboth Beach resort area farmer's market, which boasts thousands of visitors every season. Having generated a tremendous amount of interest in their product by participating in local events, Mr. Hayes is looking forward to opening a new location in Southern Delaware.
Mr. Hayes attributes his success to unwavering familial support as well as his educational background in the culinary arts. In 2008, Mr. Hayes earned an associate degree in food service management and Culinary Arts from Delaware Technical & Community College. He also received an associate degree in hotel, restaurant and institution management from the same institution, graduating magna cum laude in 2004 and 2008. His professional affiliations include the First State Chefs Association and the American Culinary Federation.
